The meeting with architect Archil Kurdiani

On the 11th of July, a substantive discourse unfolded with Architect Archil Kurdiani and participants of the sculpture symposium at the international cultural center, "Muza." The discussion centered around the topic of modern urban cultural spaces and their symbiosis with sculpture.

The challenges in the functioning of contemporary urban socio-cultural spaces and the integration of sculpture into them are prevalent worldwide. The modern environment, influenced by historical, cultural, and social factors, significantly impacts the principles and vision of art in the latest period, leading to changes in the corresponding values of the time.

Today, we observe a new synthesis of cityscape, architecture, and sculpture. Notably, artists creating urban sculpture in the post-Soviet period often faced difficulties arising from modern styles, forms, content, or function. Therefore, analyzing modern urban art and discussing challenges is crucial. They represent ways to address problems and are prerequisites for forming new conceptual ideas and principles.

During the meeting, Archil Kurdiani discussed the historical, cultural, and social aspects shaping the contemporary urban environment, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration between architects and sculptors. The meeting concluded with a discussion between the audience and the architect.

The sculpture student symposium is part of the "Sculpture Festival - 2023," organized by the Tbilisi Architects and Sculptors Association. Financial support for the festival is provided by the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, with the Georgian Culture Foundation as its partner. Knauf • Knauf and Caparol Georgia serve as festival sponsors, and the Public Broadcaster is the festival's information supporter.
