From October 15 to 19, 2021, the Tbilisi Architects and Sculptors Association organized the exhibition "Contemporary Georgian Sculpture" at the Merab Berdzenishvili International Cultural Center "Muza," dedicated to the memory of sculptor Merab Berdzenishvili.
The exhibition was held within the framework of the project "Sculpture During the COVID-19 Pandemic – A Contemporary Sculpture Forum," implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth of Georgia and Tbilisi City Hall.
The exhibition focused on artworks created during the pandemic, selected through a pre-announced competition. A total of 50 sculptors from Georgia and abroad participated in the event. It is noteworthy that despite the strong desire and multiple attempts by sculptors and professionals in the field, no exhibition of such scale had been held in recent decades. This further emphasizes the significance of the event.
The exhibition presented a wide range of materials, offering visitors an opportunity to explore various artistic approaches. Numerous fascinating sculptures, created by artists from different generations, were on display.
Based on the exhibited works, it became evident to researchers, artists, and the general public that the evolution of Georgian sculpture remains uninterrupted, maintaining a high professional standard.
