Georgian Sculpture: A Vision of the Past and Future

June 27 to July 5, 2024

The exhibition “Georgian Sculpture: A Vision of the Past and Future” was held in Akhaltsikhe from June 27 to July 5, 2024, organized by the Tbilisi Architects and Sculptors Association.

The project aimed to create a mobile exhibition of contemporary Georgian sculpture, which was first presented in Akhaltsikhe and is intended to be displayed in various regions across Georgia. The exhibition featured works by the founders of the Georgian sculpture school, including Iakob Nikoladze, Nikoloz Kandelaki, Merab Berzenishvili, Elguja Amashukeli, and other notable sculptors and other notable sculptors, alongside sculptures by current professional artists. It also showcased works by local sculptors.

The project was supported financially by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia and was partnered with the Akhaltsikhe Municipality. It featured sculptures that reflect the development of contemporary Georgian sculpture, including both traditional and innovative approaches.

Educational and informative events were also organized during the exhibition, offering local students, schoolchildren, and other interested individuals an opportunity to engage with Georgian sculpture through lectures and discussions.
