The Phenomenon of Love in Philosophy and Christian Thought
Public Lecture
June 16, 2025
On June 16, 2025, a public lecture by philosopher Levan Gigineishvili was held at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts on the topic: 'The Phenomenon of Love in Philosophy and Christian Thought.'
The event took place within the framework of the project 'Ghani', organized by the Tbilisi Association of Architects and Sculptors. The project's central theme is: 'Love – The Path to Deification.'
The lecture focused on the concepts of love in ancient Greek (Plato, Neoplatonism) and Christian theological traditions — including agape, philia, eros, and storge — as well as the teachings of Saint Augustine and Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. Special attention was given to the interpretation of these ideas in Georgian philosophical thought, particularly through the texts of Ioane Petritsi and Shota Rustaveli.
The lecture concluded with an open discussion, giving the audience an opportunity to ask questions and share their reflections on the topics explored.
